Depart: Julius Nyerere International. Dar-es-Salaam. What to Expect on this Serengeti Safari: This is an exciting Tanzania safari offering the endless Serengeti plains. The Serengeti is one of the most famous safari destinations in the world and rightly so – the vast open savanna plains are home to the great wildebeest migration. The short grass plains around Sanctuary Kusini provide the perfect setting for the wildebeest as they mass around this area in the early months of each year. You will experience amazing game drives and stay in luxury tents with private butlers in attendance.
Note: You are not limited to only 3 days. This safari can be as long as you wish. Day 1 : Arusha to Serengeti National Park You will depart Arusha Airport early morning for your scheduled flight to the Serengeti. Upon arrival in the Serengeti, a guide will meet at the airstrip and transfer you to the camp, approximately a 15 minute drive with game viewing en route. After lunch and time to settle in, the afternoon will be spent looking for animals returning as the sun sets.
Sanctuary Kusini Tented Camp is built on a raised kopje surrounded by woodland and provides stunning views of the plains below from the main deck. Zebra, cape buffalo, lion and cheetah are a common sight year-round. The camp has a library, sitting room, dining room and verandah. The twelve luxury tents are shaded by acacia trees, and are positioned carefully with views of the surrounding plains.
Each tent has its own personal attendant to look after guests during their stay. The tents have its own private wooden verandah with comfortable furniture, the ideal spot to relax for a sundowner. Part of Kusini's charm is its remote and private location within the park, offering exceptional wildlife viewing on a Tanzania safari.
The area around Sanctuary Kusini in particular, is noted for its lion and cheetah populations and excellent leopard sightings. The treeless plains in this area provide the perfect habitat for cheetah that has made this area of the Serengeti their permanent home. The nearby Moru Kopjes are also renowned for good resident game, particularly cats, all year round. The woodland area fringing the short grass plains where Kusini is located also has great sightings of resident game including rarer species such as klipspringer.
The famous wildebeest great migration is usually present in the area during the earlier months of the year. One of the highlights is the calving season which is usually between January and March and sees the arrival of newborn zebra and wildebeest calves. The short grass plains around Sanctuary Kusini provide the perfect setting for the wildebeest as they gather around this area during the birthing of their young. Bird life at Kusini is particularly good on the forest edge where woodpeckers and brightly coloured kingfishers can often be seen.
A unique activity has been developed at Sanctuary Kusini where you can contribute to the Serengeti Cheetah Project by monitoring the cheetah of this national park. Venture out into this remote region of the Serengeti with an expert guide in search of cheetah.
Your Tanzania safari guide will introduce you to the cheetah's habitat and teach you how to correctly identify and photograph the cheetah you spot and record their behaviour and location. Your contribution to the project could uncover new movement patterns and aid development of conservation programs. Day 2 : Serengeti National Park Experience a spectacular sunrise from the top of the kopje at Sanctuary Kusini, while sipping freshly made juices and watching the sun light up the woodland and short grass plains around the camp. Then spend the whole day game viewing and stop at a specially chosen spot where your guide will set up a delicious picnic lunch.
On your return to camp late afternoon, enjoy cocktails served on top of the nearby kopje. Watch as the sun sets over the vast Serengeti plains. You might see the nocturnal creatures like an aardvark, an aardwolf or a bush baby.
The African night sky offers some of the best star gazing in the world. After dinner, sit on top of a large granite rock and allow your guide to uncover the universe. With a green laser pointer to show you the way, he will take you on a journey through the stars where you can get lost in the beauty of the night sky on your Serengeti safari. Day 3 : Serengeti National Park to ArushaFollowing an early morning activity and breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airstrip with a game drive en route, to fly back to Arusha. Upon arrival in Arusha, you will be met and transferred to the airport for your onward arrangements.
