Ruaha is Tanzania's second largest national park. Ruaha’s dramatic scenery includes rolling hills, large open plains, groves of baobabs and, along its southern border, the Great Ruaha River. Ruaha National Park has the largest elephant population of any Tanzanian national park, and is an excellent park to see predators on your Tanzania safari.

Lion prides are frequently large; cheetahs are often seen hunting on the open plains; leopard are widespread, and wild dogs are often seen. Ruaha's birdlife is extraordinary - along the rivers you will find goliath herons, saddle-billed storks, white-headed plovers and the white-backed night heron.

Ruaha River Lodge has twenty detached cottages (known as 'bandas') that are built along the banks of the river and are reached on sandy, stone-lined pathways. Each banda is spacious and very comfortable, with a large veranda, a small lounging area, a double and a single bed and an en-suite bathroom.

This Tanzania lodge has two separate dining and bar areas servicing ten rooms each, thus maintaining a personalized small camp atmosphere in each. The lounge and dining areas are under one large thatch roof, with open sides and views out across the river. Polished stone floors, reed and thatch materials and dark leather furniture give this lodge a rustic yet colonial feel. The design is simple and open.

Children:

Children of all ages are welcome at this Tanzania lodge. Child-care or babysitting facilities can be arranged at the lodge. Parents should also be aware that this camp is not fenced and wildlife can pass through at any time – children should not be left unaccompanied.
