The Selous Safari Camp is located within an open palm forest on the shores of Lake Nzerakera, a massive lake adjoining the Great Rufiji River, Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania. There is a daily 40-minute scheduled flight to Selous, and private charters are easily arranged. There is no road access to the camp. The Selous (pronounced “Seloo”) is huge! It is almost 4 times the size of the Serengeti and bigger than the country of Switzerland. It is such a perfect example of wild and unspoiled African bush, that it has been proclaimed a World Heritage Site.
Selous Game Reserve is named after the legendary 19th century English hunter-explorer Frederick Courtney Selous, whose African adventure books became best sellers in Victorian England. It remains a reserve that attracts the more intrepid and adventurous explorer as it is off the beaten track of the main tourist routes.
