Tanzania's coastal vegetation is lush and dotted amongst it are small farming villages, where clusters of thatched huts stand under palm and papaya trees. As you drive south from Dar es Salaam you will see swaying palm trees and stalls laden with fruit and vegetables.
In the Ras Kutani area there are only two lodges which boast idyllic beachfront locations. Neither offer sophisticated activities: no jet skis, speedboats or scuba diving are allowed, so the beach remains quiet and relaxing.
Amani Beach is a mix of European and Swahili styles. The buildings are all white washed stone with terracotta tiled floors, reminiscent of buildings you might find on the coasts of Europe, but the thatched roofs and Zanzibari furniture will remind you that you are visiting the Swahili coast of Africa.
